Materials are decorative and sometimes functional textures that you can use to customize the facilities of your prison. They can be divided into two big groups: Walls and Flooring.

Construction and Demolition[]

Your Workmen will take care of building and demolishing Walls and Flooring whenever you give them the order.

  • To build a Wall, open the Walls & Doors menu on the 'Walls' tab (default tab whenever you open the menu) and select the type of Wall you want to build; click, hold and drag on an empty spot of the map to build a wall in a line or a square. This method is used only to build dividing walls; if you need to build foundations, use the Foundations menu.
  • To demolish a Wall, use the 'Demolish Walls' tool found in both the Foundations menu and at the end in the Walls & Doors menu. This will generate Rubble, which needs to be dumped by Workmen.
  • To place Flooring, open the Flooring menu and select the desired type of Flooring to build; click, hold and drag to lay down the Flooring. Some types of Flooring can only be placed 'indoors' (e.g. Wooden Floor) or 'outdoors' (e.g. Road).
  • To remove Flooring, select the 'Sell Flooring' tool in the Flooring menu and select the Flooring you wish to dispose of; this action is immediate and does not require Workmen.

Walls[]

Walls are used enclose outside areas of your prison and delimit rooms.

Although most of the walls only differ differ in aesthetics, some of them have additional features:

  • Fence, Fence (grass) and Fence (bamboo) let your Guards see through them; however they are easy to climb over by prisoners if you have Escape Plans enabled in the map settings.
  • Barred Wall lets your Guards see through it, and they can also shoot with a Tazer through the bars.

NOTE: indoors and outdoors areas do not visually communicate between them, meaning a Guard or CCTV camera placed outside will not be able to see inside a room even if it has Barred Walls.

  • Perimeter Wall prevents prisoners to digging Escape Tunnels under it; however it doesn't let you build water pipes through it.

Prisoners and Staff members cannot usually pass through walls; Workmen may occasionally travel through walls when building near or under them to prevent getting stuck. If you enable the mutator 'Spectral Staff', all your Staff can move freely through walls.
